Finance Manager - Hotel

Full Job Description

Reports to:   GeneralManager           

We are currently searching for a Financemanager for our client who is a 5 start hotel, the successful candidate will beresponsible to   Plan and manage thehotel’s finance operations including financial analysis andreporting, forecasting and budgeting, audit and control, asset andliability reconciliation, working capital and cash control and ensurecompliance to approved budgets, the hotel’s accounting guidelines and policies,international accounting standards and all statutory obligations. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership to finance and accounting areas of thehotel and represent the Department in the different management forums.
  
• Analyze and provide financial insights to aid decisionsabout formulating and executing strategy and provide guidance and analysis tomanagement and the board to improve the hotel performance.
  
• Maintain up-to-date accounting systems, keep books andrecords on all transactions and assets and an orderly accounting filing system.
  
• Lead the preparation, analysis and timely submission ofaccurate, and complete end of year financial statements to management and theBoard.
  
• Prepare, analyze and present accurate monthly financial andmanagement reports to the management team, including income statement, balancesheet, budget and variance, projections and forecast and cash flow.
  
• Coordinate the preparation of audited financial statements,all tax returns and other statutory obligations like NSSF.
  
• Oversee monthly processing of the hotel payroll, ensure itsaccuracy by confirming staff entitlements whether all allowable deductions aremade including internal loans, advances and statutory deductions.
  
• Monitor the ledgers and oversee the processing of accountspayable, revenue and expense, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations andallocations.
  
• File and submit tax returns and other statutory requirementslike NSSF within the required timeframe by law.
  
• Supervise the procurement function of the hotel and ensurevalue for money purchases of goods and services, evaluate the performance ofcontractors and take corrective actions.
  
• Supervise the internal audit function and coordinateexternal audits, follow-up on audit issues and ensure closure.
  
• Supervise and build a strong, professional and competentaccounting / finance team, monitor and evaluate their performance in line withthe hotel policies.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the disciplines ofAccounting, Finance, Business Administration or any other related field.
  
• A master’s degree in any of the above disciplines is anadded advantage.
  
• Full profession certification (ACCA or CPA).
  
• A Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting and financein a reputable and busy institution, preferably in the hotel industry, at least4 of which should have been at Managerial level.
  
• Excellent Strategic Planning and Budgeting skills.
  
• Strong Financial Analysis and Monitoring skills.
  
• Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets,experience with PMS like; Opera, Sun Finance, visual one, room master etc.
  
• Proficiency and application of IFRS.
  
• Excellent Organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  
• Risk analysis and management.
  
• Proficiency in preparation of Financial Reports.
  
• Excellent knowledge of tax laws/statutory obligations andimpact on business.
  
• Strong business acumen.
  
• Requires working for extended hours occasionally.
