Full Job Description

Key Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensuretimely and accurate preparation and submission of all statutory filings, notlimited to income tax returns, VATreturns, withholding tax returns, Excise duty, DTS, and company returns. Thiswill include NSSF, NHIF and any other that may be there from time to time
  • Perform financial data analysis, supporting IT enabled reporting and handling electronic filing of tax returns
  • Conductregular internal audits to identify potential areas of non-compliance andinstitute corrective actionsincluding staff trainings and following up on compliance of the corrective actions
  • Advisein developing and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize availabletax incentives for the business operations
  • Provide guidance and training to financeand operational teams on compliance matters
  • Keepabreast of the changes in tax laws and regulations in Uganda, assessing theirimpact on the company and advisingmanagement (including training to staff) on necessary adjustments to ensurecompliance, equally collaborate with otherdepartments to create a culture of compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all tax-related documentation, correspondence, and filings.
  • Collaboratewith tax/legal advisors in attending to all direct, indirect and personal taxesinquiries and assessments issued by the respective authorities, make/review provisional taxes and manage communicationregarding all outstanding tax matters in dispute, assessments, tax demands,ongoing tax compliance audits including obtaining professional opinions or advice on tax matters and updating management appropriately
  • Carry out tax risk analysis and advisory, keeping an eye on transfer pricing laws (related party transactions),imported services and Customs regulations for Board and Management update alsoprepare periodic reports on tax compliance activities, highlighting key findings, risks, and recommendations
  • Also, any other duty assigned to by the line supervisor.

Qualifications and competences
  • A university degree or equivalent certification in Accounting and Finance, Tax Management, Commerce, Business Administration with option (Accounting and Finance) or similar related accounting course with CPA or ACCA Qualified or equivalent
  • At least 4 years of working experience in Tax Compliance & Reportingin a similar position with relevant proven experience in handling tax matters with URA and statutory bodies preferable in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skillswith the ability to interpret complex tax legislation and apply it to practical scenarios, Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with internal stakeholders and external authorities and proactive approach to identifying and mitigating tax compliancerisks
  • Using tax software and accounting systems.Experience with ERP systems is a plus, Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in preparing tax-related documents and reports and Business acumen.
