Summary

Panagora Group, a woman-owned small business specializing inglobal health and international development, seeks a short -term consultant CommunicationsSpecialist for the USAID Uganda Health Systems Strengthening (UHSS) Activitybeing implemented in Uganda. The overall goal of the project is to improve theperformance of Uganda’s health system by improving leadership andaccountability for results in the public and private sector and across alllevels of the health system, ensuring efficient use and management of keyhealth systems resources, and strengthening community health systems for highquality health services. 

The Communications Specialist consultant will lead thecreation of communications materials for UHSS, including technical documents,success stories, required reports, videos, and social media posts. They willwork closely with project staff and consultants to write, edit, format, andproduce legacy materials throughout the project closeout. They also will workwith the project team to ensure that communication materials are consistentwith UHSS’s branding and marking requirements, of high quality, and meet theneeds of our client.   The CommunicationsSpecialist consultant will maintain high standards for writing, editing, style,format, design, and production for all UHSS written and graphic materials. Thisposition is short-term (estimated 6 months, October-March) and based in Kampala.The consultant will work in-person at the UHSS office as needed, to facilitatecollaboration amongst team members, particularly during quarterly and annualreporting periods.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of the Activity’s communicationsand knowledge management strategies.
  • Work closely with the MEL/CLA Director and regional officestaff to identify and capture communications opportunities that align withproject achievements and successes.
  • Lead project team efforts to create and disseminate achievementsthrough success stories, newsletters, technical briefs, legacy documents,quarterly, annual, and final reports; specific responsibilities will includecurating, writing, editing, formatting, design, production, and dissemination.
  • Promote and ensure compliance with internal and externalcommunications standards, guidelines, processes, and protocols including USAIDbranding and marking requirements.
  • Produce and edit basic graphic design elements.
  • Generate and coordinate media coverage of key events.
  • Coordinate and support the development of conference andworkshops materials including writing and editing abstracts and presentations.
  • Coordinate with local consultants and vendors providingphotography, video production, and other communications-related services andsupport, as needed.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, knowledgemanagement, organization development, organizational learning, internationaldevelopment, business, social sciences, or another relevant discipline.   
  • Minimum four years of relevant work experience in communicationsor knowledge management for public health or other development initiatives.
  • Outstanding writing and ability to convert technical contentfor lay audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working with USAID communications,including messaging, policies, procedures, publications review, and branding.
  • Demonstrated excellence working with technical staff toproduce key communications and learning products for USAID, including stories,videos, data visualization, conference abstracts and presentations, webinars,journal articles, and technical briefs.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard practices andprocedures, receive general instruction and supervision on work progress, andmake significant contribution to end results.
  • Excellent command of the English language with demonstratedability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications and Adobe AcrobatProfessional.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to performunder pressure to meet strict deadlines, build consensus, and work with diversegroups of people.
  • Strong organizational and work prioritization skills.
  • Strong administrative skills, word processing abilities, andattention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, independent thinking,judgment, integrity, and respect for others.

The Writer/Editor will report to the MEL/CLA Director
