horizont3000 supports a number of partner organisations in Uganda that implement projects in the two sectors: Sustainable Livelihoods, and Human Rights & Civil Society. For the last two years, a digitalisation project is being implemented among our partners. A series of basic and advanced online trainings were delivered covering essential topics such as: organisational data management, online facilitation techniques, and enhancing organisational visibility. The project directly targets six partners and more have benefited from the online engagements. These trainings have generated interest from other partner organisations in Uganda who continue to seek guidance for long-term sustainability strategies in their use of digital tools. br>The Advisor for Digital Communication will serve as a trainer and mentor for partner organisations adopting emerging digital trends, and support further enhancement using modern communication tools for the visibility and efficiency of the organisations' work. A goal is that youth and women will gain easier access to information and participation in project activities, reducing the need to travel long distances to attend meetings.
Your Tasks
The advisor supports the partner organisations in Uganda in the following areas:


Developing user-friendly manuals and guidelines on effective digital communication strategies, including providing guidance on the design and development of communication materials (incl. newsletters, social media, etc.) and enhancing knowledge management systems for effective information flows and organisational learning
dvising on the planning, implementation, evaluation, and refinement of communication activities and campaigns, including via social media channels
Supporting the creation of gender-sensitive content for digital communication channels
Designing and delivering engaging training materials and workshops on digital communication and digital platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other relevant tools to improve internal and external communication)
Training staff of partner organisations on data protection and data security, and supporting partner organisations draft data protection policies in line with local regulations
Consulting for partner organisation on the use of AI tools to improve their capacity in data analysis, reporting and planning

Your Profile


University degree in Information Technology and/or Telecommunications, Communication Studies, Public Relations, Digitalisation, or a related field
Solid professional experience in digital communication, including hands-on expertise in social media management and the use of modern communication tools and platforms
Proven track record of organising and facilitating capacity development activities, such as workshops, peer learning sessions, coaching, and mentoring
Strong self-management skills, with a proactive, well-structured, and diplomatic approach to planning and implementing activities
Willingness to travel within the country and work in diverse environments
High level of respect, empathy, and intercultural sensitivity, particularly in working with faith-based organisations (FBOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs)

Partner Organisation
horizont3000 East African Regional office operates in three East African countries - Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda - and supports approximately 16 partner organisations implementing projects in our Sustainable Livelihoods and Human Rights & Civil Society sectors in the Region. Some partner organisations are well-established national or regional umbrella organisations, whereas other partners are small, community-development oriented NGOs. horizont3000 supports partner organisations in capacity building initiatives that ensure institutional growth through its technical assistance programme.
As Advisor for Digital Communication you will play a key role in strengthening the digital capacities of our partner organisations in Uganda. You will provide hands-on support, strategic advice, and capacity building to enhance their communication and knowledge management in the digital age.
Deployment site
The assignment will be based in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, with frequent travel expected. Situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, Kampala experiences a generally warm and favorable climate year-round. Rainfall can occur even during the dry season, and contrasting weather patterns may be experienced within a single day. Average annual temperatures hover around 26°C and light clothing is typically sufficient. As Uganda’s national and commercial hub, Kampala offers access to a wide range of international-standard amenities, including healthcare, banking, and recreational facilities. Quality accommodation is readily available, both furnished and unfurnished, with options near the position's workplace. Rental prices vary depending on location and included services. Several hospitals and clinics are accessible within a reasonable distance. Numerous shopping options are available, including malls, supermarkets, and small shops that stay open from early morning until late at night, offering groceries, clothing, and household essentials. The cost of living is relatively affordable. < r>Kampala is considered one of the safest capital cities in Africa. Petty theft may occur. At night, it is advisable to use Uber or other trusted taxi services. The Regional Office for East Africa provides regular security updates from reliable sources such as the UN and EU. Individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant and always prioritize personal safety.

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) calls for proposals for a freelance Community Manager capable of representing, supporting, and managing a community of journalists under its "MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices 2025" programme in Uganda. MiCT invites interested and qualified persons to submit proposals by Monday, July 28, 2025.
1. Introducing MiCT br>Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation that delivers expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility. Through our collaborative work with our partners, we foster transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue, supporting resilient societies that thrive. Across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, media research and monitoring, and supporting our partners' financial viability.
2. The MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices Programme
MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices Programme is designed for media professionals from countries experiencing crisis and conflict who hold journalistic integrity as a core professional value. Currently, the programme concentrates on journalists and media creators from Afghanistan, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar, under a global mandate. Fellows are afforded financial and health assistance, expert safety guidance, online and in-person training, legal and psycho-social support, production counsel, and entry to a worldwide network of media professionals with shared values.
3. Description of the role
The duration of the contract is from August 1st 2025 until December 31st 2025. The chosen person will undertake the following responsibilities to fulfill community management related tasks for up to 5 Fellows based in Uganda:


Coordinate contractual engagements with the fellows
anage stipend transfers
Support alumni legal and safety needs where required
Provide logistical and technical relocation support on a needs basis
Creation and management of safety measures for up to 20 Journalists and/or Media Makers -Organise relocations, secure accommodations, and co-working spaces
Organise procurement and contracting of support offers (training, expert consultations, workshops, insurance, language classes etc) in the following areas.
Organise at least 2 community meet-ups, including alumni Fellows
Conduct regular check-ins with MiCT's Project Manager and Project Officer

4. Application Requirements
Interested persons should demonstrate the following:


Proven experience in project management, particularly in media development projects.
Established connections within the regional media landscape and community.
Strong community management skills.
Large network of service providers, particularly to provide psychological and legal support.
Understanding of the media landscape throughout Uganda.
Understanding of the immigration landscape in Uganda preferred.

About Self Help Africa:
Self Help Africa (SHA) is an international NGO dedicated to the vision of an economically thriving and resilient rural Africa. We have 50 years of experience working with smallholder farmers, farmer associations, cooperatives and agribusinesses across Africa to help farmers grow and sell more food, improve diets, diversify incomes and make their livelihoods more sustainable and resilient to external shocks. SHA also builds awareness of issues affecting smallholders and represent their interests at policy and institutional level. br>SHA is a core member of The Gorta Group which is composed of a group of innovative organisations driving sustainable economic and social change across Africa. Comprising Self Help Africa, United Purpose, Partner Africa and TruTrade, the Gorta Group combines expertise in market-based solutions to poverty and rural development; climate change mitigation and resilience; trade facilitation and farmer and worker rights; underpinned by an inclusive ethos that specifically targets women and youth.
Background:
Community Foundation Ireland (CFI) supported BUILD Napak and Green Kabale / Rubanda Projects in Uganda:
SHA received funding from Community Foundation Ireland (CFI) to support 1,000 smallholder farmers in Napak District for a period of 3 years (2023-2025). The Building Livelihood and Resilience in Napak (BUILD) focuses on increasing climate smart agricultural production, improving market opportunities, financial inclusion, enterprise skills and household nutrition and WASH practices. CFI is also funding SHA through the Sustainable Landscapes for Resilient Livelihoods and Growing Resilience and Eco Enterprise (GREEN) project aimed at strengthening eco-businesses and climate-resilient livelihoods in the Lake Bunyonyi sub-catchment in the District of Kabale and Rubanda in Western Uganda.
The implementation of the two CFI funded projects that commenced in January 2023 will end by December 2025. It’s therefore essential to capture the work done in the last 3 years through a visual storytelling approach that captures lessons learned, best practices, challenges and success stories. This documentation will serve as a reference for learning, knowledge sharing, advocacy, replication and reporting to stakeholders. < r>Overall purpose of the video documentary:
The primary purpose of the videos is to communicate the significant impact of both BUILD and GREEN projects. By visually demonstrating the achievements and transformative changes experienced by the project participants, the videos will effectively showcase how these projects have contributed to improved livelihood, enhanced food security, sustainable natural resource management and green economy. This compelling narrative will highlight the real-world benefits of these interventions. The videos can be used by CFI to showcase the impact of their support to SHA and can be used by SHA to engage with individual and institutional donors to highlight the impact we can with ongoing support for our work across the various countries.
Scope of work
Before-and-After Comparisons:
The videos will present before-and-after comparisons of project sites, illustrating the physical and environmental changes that have occurred due to project interventions. This visual evidence will clearly represent improvements, such as:


Increased crop yields
nhanced soil health
Restored biodiversity
Diversified sources of income
Improved hygiene and sanitation

Deliverables of the assignment:


Inception report including a detailed plan outlining the approach for content collection and documentary production.
Development of 6 mini documentaries specific to 3 outcomes per project of approximately 2 minutes long.
Create a longer version of the documentary capturing all the 6 outcomes from the two projects.
Photographs. The successful vendor will be required to capture at least 25 high-quality photographs of beneficiaries in each location. These should be captioned (using the attended information gathering form that curates variables such as name, location, age, what they are doing plus an aspirational quotation).
Subtitles and Translations, the vendor must also provide real-time translation into English of all interviews being taken.
Consent Forms: The successful vendor must fill Self Help Africa’s Consent forms for each person appearing, and adhere to Self Help Africa’s Safeguarding guidelines.
Raw footage: The vendor will provide ALL the footage filmed for SHA on this assignment, with captions and descriptions, as well as the 'working files' (through Adobe Premiere Pro programme or any other relevant video editing- including all raw materials such as music, subtitles, and other treatments).
Final versions of the documentary in suitable formats for broadcasting, meeting professional standards of audio-visual quality and storytelling.

Activity Timeline
The assignment is expected to take not more than 14 working days. A draft copy shall be submitted to Self Help Africa by the 22nd of August 2025 and final copy by 29th of August 2025. Upon receipt, the project team shall discuss and make necessary recommendations and together with the consultant fine tune the final product expectations.
Qualification and experience of the consultants


The consultant and associates are expected to have adequate knowledge in photography, documentation / storytelling, cinematography, sound design or related fields of study.
Demonstrated expertise conducting professional documentary with at least 5 years of relevant working experience in similar field.
Outstanding video editing and story writing skills
Good written communication skills in English and experience in script writing, and oral communication skills.
Availability and willingness to travel up-country to the project sites
High level of creativity and innovativeness.
